Did you know, you could kit out your whole home for very little money? Canterbury based Necessary Furniture provide quality, affordable homeware to those that need a helping hand. A donation of just 5 can make a huge difference and help us with everyday running costs such as maintaining and fuelling our vans and employing the staff who collect and deliver.

Necessary Furniture is a charity based in Hersden, Canterbury. We provide recycled furniture to those on a low income, receiving benefits, single parents or who just need a helping hand. You could kit out your entire home for as little as 300! Services
Through the re-distribution of household goods Necessary Furniture is making a positive contribution to the welfare of the disadvantaged in our community.
We work in partnership with similarly motivated charitable organisations and agencies.
We provide not only very affordable homeware to those that need a helping hand but also training, and work experience that leads to worthwhile jobs for the unemployed.
Every year our activity saves hundreds of tonnes of perfectly useable furniture from entering the waste stream only to become landfill.
Since 1997 our initiative and bargain homeware has benefited both the donors and those who need a helping hand in our community.
We are a largely self-financing charity which makes genuine bargains available to you by collecting great quality homeware from around South East Kent - it really is a win-win situation.
You furnish your home with great quality things for next to nothing - whilst we help to reduce the amount of waste going to landfill.
We're selective about what we accept from donors and currently we don't stock clothes or gas heaters but we still have a fantastic variety of things for you to choose from.

Whilst we can't handle clothes, gas heaters, or household fixtures and fittings which are hazardous or beyond repair, we may be able to refer donors and clients to more appropriate organisations in the supply network.
We are often looking for new people to join Necessary Furniture.
It's a rewarding and interesting place to work and we offer various voluntary and paid job opportunities.
Our current Executive Chairperson has retired due to illness and we're looking for an enthusiastic, motivated person to replace him.
Our board of trustees help determine and drive strategy for Necessary Furniture, so need to be pro-active, positive and have good planning skills.
