I've been designing and making furniture for over 25 years, specialising in modern/ contemporary pieces, made from British, European and north American hardwoods. It's all about the design. It may be one I produce for you, or it may be your own. I largely work to commission for private clients and I'm passionate about being as environmentally responsible as possible.
The timber I use comes from countries with a good record of forest management and I work with recycled or reused timber and fittings where available and appropriate. I take the approach that if my furniture is well designed and built, it will last a lifetime (centuries, if looked after!).

Services
I started the business in 1994, following several years working as an antique restorer.
This was a great introduction to furniture making, as I got to take apart, examine and repair the work of makers, some of whom were very good, others not so good.
I generally work on my own, but for larger jobs I have a few friends and colleagues who help out.
I'm a great believer in investing in new equipment both to improve efficiency and to ensure my work is as high quality as possible.
Alongside a wide range of machinery and tools, my latest Big Thing has been to get and train in 3D computer design.

The process of commissioning a piece of furniture is of course dependent on the wishes of the client, but usually follows one of two broad paths:.
The client needs me to start from scratch.
In this case I usually visit to discuss the work, measure up, and show samples of materials.
Then I produce a design or designs on paper, computer or scale model, and then produce a quotation once a design has been agreed.
Or the client already has a design (produced by him or herself, or by an architect or designer) - in which case I simply give a quotation.
