Wood Design
I began Wood Design Workshops in the Autumn of 1987, having spent the previous ten years teaching woodwork. In the years since, I have been designing and making, what I believe to be beautiful pieces of contemporary furniture which will give pleasure to their owners for many years. The vast majority of my work is made from solid hardwoods and uses time honoured methods of construction such as wedged mortice and tenons and handcut dovetails.

Much of the work involves using more than one type of timber. This maybe to highlight a particular feature or to create interest by harnessing different colours or grain patterns. The timber I use is sourced from a variety of locations. Local sawmills provide much of the native wood, whilst specialist suppliers allow me access to the more exotic and rare species.

I also collect trees, have them sawn at a local mill and then air-dry them outside my workshop. After a number of years outside they are finally conditioned in a kiln and then brought inside the workshop.
Services
The entrance to the workshop opens into the showroom where examples of my work can be seen along with a large selection of timber samples.
Outside the workshop is a large area devoted to timber storage.
Here are the trees that have been sawn into planks and are air drying.
Under cover are further stocks of timber that have been air dried and are awaiting kilning.
One of the services I offer is that of turning a client's tree into a piece of furniture.
I have the facilities for collecting the butt, and with the use of a local sawmill, converting it into planks.
The workshop is situated near the small picturesque village of Angmering in West Sussex.
Angmering is about halfway between Arundel and Worthing, just off the A259.
Prospective clients are most welcome to visit the workshop during the weekday hours of 9am to 5.30pm and at weekends by appointment.
It is always a good idea to telephone prior to visiting.
There is an excellent pub/restaurant in the village called The Spotted Cow which offers superb food.
