Andrew Lapthorn FSDC completed his studies in 'Furniture, Fine Craftsmanship and Design' in 1981 at one of the foremost establishments of its kind in the country, Rycotewood College, Thame. At the same time he passed with distinction his Licentiateship of the Society of Designer Craftsmen. He has been running his own business making bespoke furniture ever since.
Set amongst 80 acres of industrial and naval buildings of architectural significance the workshops are situated in the grounds of the Historic Dockyard in Chatham, Kent, within 25 minutes of the London M25. His designs are invariably the result of being asked to provide a practical solution to and put order into the everyday life. In 2021 he was awarded a Fellowship of the Society of Designer Craftsmen.
Since 2013 Andrew has been part time lecturer at the Furniture Craft School, Scotney Castle Estate.
