Uncommon Projects can be found throughout London and all over the UK. From single kitchen installations to top-to-bottom house redevelopments, our designs always take the overall architecture and aesthetic of the property as their starting point, so whatever the layout and finish chosen, they always make the most of the space and feel like they belong.
This kitchen features a large island with breakfast bar facing the dining table. A window seat with internal storage overlooks the garden. The style of the kitchen suits the client's collection of mid-century furniture and objects. This kitchen was designed for a Span house that still retains it's original glass room divider, a feature normally missing from these houses.
The cabinets are finished in maple veneer to contrast with the original hardwood parquet floor. The green worktop matches the original colour of the garage doors on the estate. Situated in a Victorian house with an unusual layout, we had to try and make this kitchen feel like it was a part of the rest of the room, despite being tucked away at the back.

Services
At Uncommon Projects, we have been designing, manufacturing and installing bespoke kitchens and furniture for a decade.
Our founders, the architect Alan Drumm and the product designer James Hoy, set up our studio in London, in 2011, armed with a wealth of experience in interior architecture, design and manufacture, a mutual affection for the early modernist aesthetic, and a shared appreciation of the material possibilities of plywood.
Our first products were in-frame doors for kitchen cabinets - challenging because dimensions and details have to be perfect every time.

Yes, we're expert joiners and cabinet makers, too.
But above all else, we're problem solvers.
Thanks to Alan and James' backgrounds in architecture and product design, we've enshrined design thinking at the heart of our work.
That means avoiding the easy route (we don't just slap cabinets on the biggest wall available), and taking the time to reconcile the reality of the space to the lifestyle and unmet needs of our customer, as well as being sensitive to existing architectural details.
Every Uncommon Projects kitchen is unique, because every customer has different problems to solve.

First, it's important to clarify something: you will find a cheaper kitchen elsewhere.
What you are much less likely to find is one that's better-made, longer-lasting, more thoughtfully designed or built from higher-quality materials.
Every item of Uncommon Projects furniture is individually designed from scratch by experienced and qualified designers (not salespeople with software).
We do not use pre-existing templates or standardised modules; each component is professionally designed and built bespoke for your space, not someone else's.

Uncommon Projects really seemed to care about our kitchen project - in a side return to a Victorian terrace.
They challenged us to think differently and consistently gave us excellent advice about everything from the units, worktops, and appliances to the floor tiles and the lighting.
Communication with Alan and Liz was always friendly, easy and quick.
They are meticulous in their attention to detail and the work is beautiful, and they always went the extra mile - when our electrician couldn't find a part for the strip lights, Liz sent a replacement by Uber and it arrived 20 min later.
