Here in the small North Yorkshire village of Bagby, near Thirsk, in James Herriot country, on the border of the North York Moors National Park, and nestling at the foot of the Hambleton Hills, lies a handmade furniture business. Using traditional methods of cabinet making and high class joinery, I produce very high quality furniture in a small workshop here at Rose Cottage, completely by myself.

Most of the work is made to commission with customers putting their own ideas and thoughts into the design of the finished piece, making each item unique. The woods used include our own native Oak and Ash, as well as American Hardwoods such as Maple, Walnut and Mahogany, all of which are sourced from sustainable forests. There are lots of different styles, colours, fittings and finishes available, and every piece of furniture has a hand carved swan as a trademark.

Almost any item of furniture can be produced, from a simple napkin ring to a complete hand built kitchen, or a custom built piece to your specification at little extra cost above standard items.
Services
Graham makes the furniture by hand in a compact, but well-equipped workshop at Rose Cottage.
You will probably see him if you visit the showroom.
At most times, there are Oak tree butts stacked in the yard to season before it is used for furniture making.
While electric tools might be used in the initial working of the wood, the finishing of joints and surface carving are done by hand, using time-honoured skills acquired over years of experience.
These include intricate carving and adzing to produce the traditional finish on such items as chair backs and table tops.
Bagby is on the edge of the North York Moors National Park, just off the A19 three miles south-east of Thirsk.
From the North, on reaching Thirsk follow signs for York (A19) and turn left to Bagby after 2 miles.
For options 1,2 & 3, look for the sign below on the right 200yds after entering the village.
The showroom is open Mon - Fri 9-5, Sat 9-4 and Sunday by appointment, but if you are travelling some distance, you might prefer to ring in advance to avoid disappointment.
Hand made furniture from Graham Duncalf will last a lifetime, so you must be sure to order exactly what you need.
If you are a new customer, we strongly suggest that you come to the Showroom in person to look at examples and to discuss your precise requirements.
It will then be possible to quote accurately for the work entailed.
You can drop in during working hours, or fix a time in advance.
For existing customers, it is possible to repeat an order or to produce further items in a matching style and wood.
