Services
Rattan is a climbing palm, the skin or bark is used in weaving when it is cut into thin strips.
It is either sold in those strips to weave on a chair frame (Victorian caning) or it is pre-woven into sheets for fitting into modern chairs (French caning).
The two processes cannot be interchanged.
Using lengths of cane up to 5 m long and 2mm wide to weave a set pattern through holes in the seat frame, back or sides.
These are held in place using the centre core of the plant as pegs.
Cost is based on the number of holes around the frame NOT the number of holes in the woven pattern.
